Small Steps in Organizing

Being sick at New Year's allowed me to take some small steps to cleaning up some of my everyday spaces.
 sparkly & organized

My jewelry box -
  • I went through and organizing all my earring pairs.
  • I used wine corks to put my stud earrings in so I can see what I have.
  • I pulled out all the earrings that didn't have mates anymore.
  • Straightening everything makes we want to wear a different pair everyday.
My kitchen drawers -
  • I recycled all the plastic baby spoons I still had.
  • I pulled on all the random mismatched utensils.
  • I tossed all the old packets of soy sauce, creamers & mustard.
  • Again, straighten up all the drawers makes me want to stay in the kitchen and cook. Ah no, not really.
My kids bathroom drawer -
And here's the final product of my purging.
  • Whew, this drawer was mess.
  • My kids have collected & made all kinds of necklaces, bracelets, rings that just ended up tangled in this drawer.
  • I pulled out all the homemade beaded jewelry in order to recycle the beads for a new project.
  • I took all the Mardi Gras-type beaded necklaces and put them in our Halloween costume box.
  • I'm donating the hair barrettes, head bands, hair ties that McKenna refuses to wear.
  • I used some of my old jars & containers to organize what was left.
I'm slowly tackling all boxes, drawers, containers, closets in my house and getting rid of the extra and the unused. It's amazing the stuff that we store and accumulate over the years. I understand keeping the memories but after a while doesn't it just become unmanageable clutter if it's not tended to.

I also decide to put those things that I don't think I can throw away right now in a bin. If I don't touch that bin again within a year. I know that I can toss or donate whatever is in there.

What are you organizing in your house? I would love to see your comments on your tips and tricks.
