These two canvases reside in my newly decorated bedroom. I took some canvases that the kids painted on and adding a stencil pattern over top of it.
For my blog followers and friends who don't know, I have a BA in Fine Arts from Berry College. My concentration of study was painting. I adore the medium. Paint palettes, paints, brushes, canvases, oh my!
I'm no Picasso or Robert Rauschenberg. You will not see my painting hanging in the MET or the High Museum. My art gallery & canvas is my home. Myself, along with my kids, have decorated our casa with our talents. I have many pieces in my house that I'm proud of. I have picture a few of them with this blog.
I love to incorporate words in my painting just like I love texture.
As much as I love painting, it's not my source of income. It's more my outlet, along with this blog. It's a passion that I look forward to when I can squeeze it into an empty "block of time". A majority of my time is spent I'm thinking about the next painting, doodling in notebooks, jotting down ideas for the next great canvas. Then when that "block of time" magically appears, I have tons of ideas to act upon. The best part about finally getting to the canvas is that the original idea takes a whole new direction. Oh, just writing about the creative process makes me want to pick up a brush and get my hands messy.
This was a Matisse-inspire project that I created. It's actually all paper cuts. No paint at all.
It's really fabulous to have both of my kids involved in art as well, We have an art cabinet in our playroom that is full of paper, paint, brushes, crayons, markers, glue, glitter, etc... They love the experience as much as I do. They could sit for hours [ok maybe it's more like 15 minutes] and create. They get so serious with what they are doing. I can only imagine what's going on in their minds as far as the creative process goes. It probably sounds something like this -
"Hum, I wonder what this painting feels like if I brush it all over my hands? Maybe I'll just do a little. Oh, look what happens when I mix white with red. MAGIC PINK! What if I put some on the table? I don't think Mommy will get mad since there's already paint there. I'm going to put hand prints everywhere. It's going to be awesome. Oh, look how nice the paint looks on my chair. I'll put a little more on it. Oh, and a sticker would look good too!"
